Yoga Queen is the story of Roma Blair, an Australian who spent WW2 as a prisoner of the Japanese, on the Indonesian island of Java. The war ended but her nightmares and ill health, due to poor nutrition and no medical attention in the POW camp, continued. It was suggested she try yoga. And she did.
Roma regained her health and went to Chennai (then Madras) in India and trained to become a yoga teacher.
Back in Australia, she opened Australia’s first ever yoga studio, in the heart of Sydney. She also worked as a model, wrote articles for magazines and hosted her own television show - Relaxing with Roma - introducing thousands of Australian women to the benefits of yoga, in the 1960s.
